This is the way bittorrent works.

When you start a torrent, the client attempts to contact the tracker and/or the DHT network, to get a list of peers who are interested in this torrent.

The client reports the count that it got, to you.

The client then attempts to contact some of those peers in order to compare what parts it has with what parts they have. (In the beginning, of course, nobody except the original seeder has anything.)

Meanwhile, other clients update their own lists from the tracker, see that you’ve been added to it, and attempt to contact you.

If there are no seeds, and nobody has any part of the download, then this is a dead torrent.

If it’s brand new, then *maybe *a seeder will show up pretty soon, so you might want to wait around for a short time – but this is not a good sign. For most torrents that aren’t dead there will be participants immediately. Not necessarily seeders, though.

I wouldn’t wait very long in that situation. A seeder should begin uploading just as soon as he finished uploading the .torrent file.

when is downloading for those 10 secs it shows lots of seeds, but after stops seeds go to cero. everything decreses to cero. so i dont know what it it.

what do you mean by "shows lots of seeds’? Until BitComet gets a list from the tracker and/or DHT, it doesn’t show any peers at all.

when i start the download it shows 4/6[3/22] under the seeds/Peers[all] & 27kB/s under the down rate then after 10+ secs starts dying to 0/0[3/22] & 0kB/s under Down Rate.

Kluelos, BC is really bugged in the the seeds/peers column display area. You know that we reported a while back the issue of “creeping peers” but that wasn’t solved yet.

I even have a bunch of magnet links added to my tasklist currently, and they’ve been sitting there for a couple of days, without being able to find and download the .torrent file from the DHT network (I guess those torrents are totally and utterly dead).

However by magic some of them reported peers (a couple of them even reported dozens of peers) and 2 of them even displayed **connected **peers! Go figure.

Those magnet links have been sitting for 4-5 days now in my tasklist and each time I start my computer they will show me peers but never have been able to even download the .torrent file (which would have been the first thing to happen if any of those tasks had found even a single peer for any of those torrents).

So, I say we should totally disregard that column until this bug gets fixed.

This is apparently a new display defect.

Getting the list of peers usually takes a few seconds, up to 2 minutes, before it displays. Sounds like what you’re seeing is just random noise before it settles down. When BC first starts, the peers columns should be blank because it hasn’t had time to find any yet.
