when i playback a dl movie the picture is crystal clean but choppy and the sound is way out of sync.
the sound is garbled
download speed is fine!

You might not have the proper codecs to play the video.
Here are some links to codec packs, both include media player classic, I suggest you install it.
If you still have questions, then provide more info.
CCCP (best for playing of files)
k lite codecs (best for playing, editing and encoding)

if you select the k lite pack, don’t just install all the options, or you will surely have problems (default settings work fine for nearly every user)
