Cannot download when computer is idle?

I have been downloading YDL for quite some time and it downloads at a decent speed. The only problem I have is when my computer is idle, it stops downloading, when I go back to my computer, I see status as Connecting… I then have to stop and restart the download and the speed returns back to normal. Can anyone help?

I am using wired connection with a Linksys router, I changed the properties of my TCP/IP protocol to not let the computer sleep when network activity is going on.

I suggest disabling any “power saving” options, such settings as powering down your hard drives when not in use, or even going into low power mode. Many of these can cause problems with bit torrent. I only use the monitor power off option, but I suggest you disable that too, until this is resolved.

Also, will the download continue if you have a program running? such as a media player running playing music? I ask this because I’m not sure if your losing your connection because of a problem with the connection, or the fact that the computer is stopping it due to inactivity.

Thanks for your response, I disabled all power down options and my download works fine when I run other applications. The other computer connected to my network is the PS3 and is it possible that the connection drops while I am playing online games? I also get constantly disconnected from the PS3 network also.

This sounds like your router is resetting.

I would try limiting the number of connections that Bit comet makes. You might also want to look into upgrading your routers firmware, as many known issues will be corrected with a firmware update.

ps. I suggest you try hooking your computer direct to the modem (if possible), as a test. this way you will know for sure if the router is the problem.
