download order bug

reporting a bug for bitcomet 64 bit 1.32 stable release

when starting a new torrent download and checking the options to download files in a certain order, the order you choose simply doesn’t work. the files will all download randomly and the file with the highest priority will not finish anywhere near first.

This is a common misconception of the way bittorrent works. You are not downloading file by file, all the files are broken into thousands of tiny pieces and when you set a certain file to high priority, BitComet will request the pieces for that file first, but it’s not going to sit idle doing nothing if those pieces aren’t available as that would be highly inefficient.

Actually if you care about efficiency, you’re best option is to not change the priority settings as doing so will have adverse effects and if you were able to force bitcomet to download only one file before proceeding to the next it could slow your progress considerably. In a situation where all pieces are equally available, it will download them in the order you request, but attempting to force this behavior would cripple your speed.
