Downloading in background

When first I installed MPC Star, it worked in the background and I could go to IE and drag to my desktop the video I had watched on my computer. I am no longer able to do that. What has changed and what can I do to be able to capture in the background?

There are many different kinds of video and many different ways of hosting and playing and your question is far too vague to even begin to comprehend.
