Downloading more than the FILE SIZE

HI,

 I am just wondering why I download more than the file size, for instance, a file that I am downloading says its size is 5mb but when i check the total downloaded it says 7mb - Using BitComet - you know why this is so? Because its a worry that I am downloading a file 700mb but the TOTAL DOWNLOADED metre says 900mb?? please help.

Each torrent downloads pieces one at a time, if any of these pieces are corrupt or damaged, they will be discarded and redownloaded until you have the target files that are 100% identical to the originals. The excess data is usually referred to as rubbish data.

There is also quite a lot of overhead associated with bittorrent, such as exchanging piecemaps with every other member of the swarm, whether or not you actually swap anything with them. It’s never been clear whether any or all of this is included in the term, “downloaded”.
