Goodbye BitComet. Will miss you but not your dev stupidity.

I have been a BitComet user for many years now but, sad to say, I must say goodbye. The single cause is BitComet dev stupidity.

A year or two ago, when version 1.26 or 1.27 came along, I ‘updated’ but found that every time I wanted to delete a torrent task (which happens a lot) I received a confirmation window that required addtional attention. I found this very annoying and time-wasting so I searched through all the options to remove it but could find nothing. I went back to 1.25 and kept using it until today when I decided that it’s just too slow opening magnet links: sometimes it takes 15 minutes or more! I downloaded 1.36, installed and was disappointed to find that same stupid comfirmation window there. Once again I searched through all the options and I searched BitComet registry entries too but, same as last time, could find nothing. I googled the problem and found this: http://www.cometforums.com/topic/12798514-dont-ask-me-again-feature-on-task-deletion/ . Obviously there SHOULD be a non-default option to disable this confirmation window so that anyone who wants to disable it, can do so. Guardian Eagle’s suggested alternative is a good one.

Seeing as BitComet’s devs do not possess the small amount of brain-power to realise this, I have no choice but to either go back to 1.25 and put up with the slow magnet links or move on to another client. In the interests of efficency and my sanity, I decided it’s time for a new client. Vuse is ‘bloatware city’ so I decided to try Tixati.

Goodbye BitComet, sad to see you go but there is no real choice. Thanks for the years of useful funcionality, much appreciated. Good luck surviving with your foolish devs, you’re going to need it!

David D.

programmer, tech, writer, editor and teacher.

David, Thank you for your opinion and taking the time to share it, however we don’t get a lot of requests to make the changes you suggest, and you certainly should know that the bitcomet development team is a volunteer project and a freeware application, so resources are limited and unfortunately they don’t have time to make changes to suit everyones taste. If this really bothered you, then I don’t see why you waited until now to make the suggestion, and if you really are a skilled programmer, tech writer and teacher who enjoyed using bitcomet for years I’d think you would have found time to register before today and share some of your skills with the community, but instead you used the first opportunity to post insults towards those who provided you with free software all these years.

Of course you’re free to do so, this is a community forum and all opinions are welcome, but if you really and sincerely wanted to help, I think you would have shared some suggestions to improve bitcomet, instead of waiting until you decided to stop using it and used your first introduction to hurl insults.

I won’t delete your message, but because of it’s “tone” I’m going to lock the thread, and since you’re leaving anyway I’m sure you won’t object if I disable your account. After all, constructive opinions are very much welcome, insults are not.

Enjoy your new client, whichever you end up with and hopefully you’ll decide to contribute to your new community rather than simply use their product until you tire of it, then insult them as you storm off looking for another.

Thank you again for your opinion on the delete task subject, it will be noted and if more members are bothered by it I’m sure the development team will consider alternatives.
