Hard Drive Is In Constant Work?!

Hi,

Iv noticed that my Hard drive is working constantly while downloading a torrent.

now it figures that this hapens because Data Is Being Downloaded And Wiriten on to the Hard drive (am i right?)

Is there A Way to “fix” this? (like http downloaders do when they split a file and only in the end they building it)

cause this is realy troubling !

let say a torrent is taking me … 2 days to download, thats mean that my HDD will spin for 2 days.

im so confused.

maybe some of you who know what im talking about could help me out?

Your harddrive has data written to it as it’s downloaded, piece by piece, but those pieces are also read repeatedly so they can be shared with other peers. If you want to reduce the number of reads on your drive you can increase the size of your disc cache. With a 32bit operating system and app your alloted memory size is limited to a max of 2gb, but if you have bitcomet 64bit you can use even larger disc cache size so data commonly requested is held in ram memory. Of course you’ll need large amounts of ram to do this, but even on a moderate system you can get some benefit by increasing disc cache size, as long as you don’t allow it to consume all your available ram.

Your default settings of 6mb min, 50mb max are very small, the best settings depend on how much ram you want to allow bitcomet to consume. I’d make the min at least 100 and the max at least 1024mb (1gb). You should have enough ram that you won’t miss 1gb used by disc cache under extreme conditions.

now that I have Set the Min=100 and max=1024, I see my HDD is not working taht hard at all (the red light is off, only now and then it flickers)

I also noticed that this dosent effect the DL\UP speed.

You’re very welcome. The only “downside” to this is bitcomet will be consuming more ram memory, but you have plenty and there is also a setting so that you can have the cache reduced if ram runs low. I think on your system you might want to increase that setting to 1024 (1gb) too, to make sure the cache is only working when you have at least 1gb ram. The only advantage to doing this is that it will avoid forcing your system into “running in swap” or using harddrive space as virtual memory which will cause heavy use on the drive and substantially slow your system. Most users never even use 4gb of ram so you’ll probably not see this unless you like to do dozens of things at once.

the 1st thing iv noticed was the ram bitcomet is consuming (about twice as much, from around 100mb to 200mb), (but i have more then enough).

Iv seen the HTTP\FTP tab in the settings and i would like to know whats it all about.

does this means that Bitcomet function as a traditional Download Manager Like IDM?

and if so how does it preform?

is it fast enough?

how does it handles the data recived? (just like torrent or split files?)

Bitcomet can download http/ftp, bitorrent, emule and our own proprietary protocol “LTseed”, in addition it is unique in that it can use cross-protocol downloading to find and complete torrents that aren’t seeded, or in some cases can download files from other torrents containing some or all of the same content.

If you want to download an http or ftp link you can do it by “add new task” function, or with browser integration so your browser downloads are sent to bitcomet. I’ve compared the performance with other http/ftp managers and found it to be among, of not THE best.

It can break the http/ftp download into pieces if the server allows and use upto 20 connections (5 is default). You can also add mirror links to the task.
