You shouldn’t just be “winging it”… and no, the odds are that (unless you’re using a private tracker) nobody is going to tell you if you’re sharing properly or not. The rule-of-thumb is to give back (upload) at least the same amount as what you have taken (downloaded)… common courtesy is to give more than your share, if only to make up for those who “hit and run” (download but do not give back).
