Hi Jennifer,
There’s an easier way to remove a plugin from Mozilla technology based web browsers, in this case, the Adobe Reader plugin from CometBird.
■ 1. Run CometBird and into the address bar type about:config and go. I think you know this screen already. If you meet this warning page, just click on the I’ll be careful! I promise! button, as usual.
■ 2. With the cursor blinkin’ now into the Filter box, type plugin.expose_full_path and double click on it once you have it before you eyes.
It should be bold now, with Value as true.
■ 3. Again, go to the address bar and type about:plugins this time. Go there. You’ll see a list of all installed plugins. Look for the Adobe Reader plugin and check where it’s located. It could be something as: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Browser.
■ 4. Open a Windows Explorer window and go to that location. Look for the file nppdf32.dll and close CometBird and any other web browser you could have running at the same time.
■ 5. Rename that file with some phrase you easily would identify as done by yourself, like JENNYnppdf32.dll. Reboot your computer now and, once it’s ready again, run CometBird and check if it still appears (it shouldn’t!). If it still appears, close CometBird, go to that location where the plugin is and delete it. Reboot your PC again.
Please, have in mind that by removing this plugin from CometBird, you’ll be removing this plugin from Mozilla Firefox and probably also from other programs, like Internet Explorer (as I’m not a MSIE user, I can’t tell that).
I didn’t posted any screenshot now because I’m sure you can manage to do it without any of them. If I’m wrong and you do need them, just let me know it and I’m gonna update this post with screenshots. B)
Have a nice weekend, everybody!
