I’m trying to use magnet links with Cometbird and Bit Comet, seemed to work fine under the terrible and unstable IE8.
just can’t seem to get it to work, am I just having a stupid moment or is there a knack to this?
BitComet doesn’t support magnet links yet.
It is expected to support them in the next version (v.1.17) though (according to the information we have from the developing team).
If Bitcomet does not support magnet links, how the h*** did it manage to work with Internet Explorer?

I think there’s a disconnect in your understanding. Web browsers and magnet links are entirely independent of, and orthogonal to, each other. A magnet link is a way for bittorrent clients to find other peers also interested in the particular torrent that the magnet link is for. A web browser is useful for finding, but not actually using, a magnet link.
