First I should warn you that installing improper or conflicting codecs can make your system unstable, but if you haven’t installed any then I would recommend getting one of the popular codec packs like those offered by K-lite or CCCP

ok, yes I know this reply is about 5 months late, but K-Lite Codec Pack works good for me.
