Feature Needed.
I want to password protect certain files like video/movie whose torrent name shouldnt be visible or be able to open Directly from clicking play button without sacrificing Disabling column name and preview in tasklist view.It should have silent download feature if we want to download anonymously from different users of the same pc of the same user login in windows7. Or you can also achieve by firefox profiles like features and protect with password to anonymously download.

Hmm. A form of this may already be in place.
If you are using a post-1.21 version and have set system.use_appdata to TRUE, then BitComet stores your task list in your %appdata% folder, which is normally associated with your login. So if you have individual accounts that are password-protected, individual tasklists should be separate. I don’t know if that is actually true in practice though. so you may want to test it before relying on it.
Kluelos, I thought setting “system use appdata” to “false” would make it use virtual store so each user account would have different settings for bitcomet, or do I have that backwards?
Are you asking for bitcomet to only show tasks being run by the user that is logged into “comet id”? If so, it’s an interesting idea, but probably not do-able, because Comet ID is optional (and should remain so in my opinion), and anything that makes it a requirement to using bitcomet might violate the bittorrent protocol rules.
I think you would be far better to use the Windows user accounts function thats already build into windows. Also, if you set your default download folder to one that is protected in windows (“my documents” for example), then no other user would be able to view the files.
Also as Kluelos mentioned, this would prevent other user accounts from viewing your task list so long as bitcomet settings are correct.
Hm, I wasn’t thinking about the effects of Virtual Store on it – just of having it stored in the user’s space rather than in Program Files. I still use XP. And of course he didn’t specify which OS he’s using.
But if virtual store had that effect, wouldn’t you see it already, whether system.use_appdata was true or false? Either way, it’s stored in the individual user’s directory, so it should be concealed from other users. I guess somebody with Vista or 7 needs to test that.
I use all three OS, xp, vista and seven. I don’t however have multiple user accounts on any of them, but from what I remember, the “system use appdata” option was added because there were issues with windows being able to access the files. From what I remember, windows won’t let bitcomet store it’s xml files in the program files directory, so it was putting them in “virtual store”, and to stop a problem with lost xml files, bitcomet began storing them in appdata instead, but made it an option in case anyone using virtual store without issue wouldn’t lose their tasks.
If your correct that both are in the protected user accounts folder tree, then either one should work. However this guy was asking about hiding the tasks and files from users on the same windows account, so I think he want’s bitcomet to do the work of making it’s own user account system because he’s too lazy to use windows user accounts lol
