Hi all
i have a very limited knowlege of how all this works and i am sure that i can find all the info i need to get started with in these forums BUT my biggest concern is for the security of my computer. I am not the only user of this comp and id hate to stuff it up so i was wondering if anyone can tell me: What are the risks??

I’m not sure exactly what you are asking.
If your asking if bit torrent is safe to use, then then answer is relative. It would be safest to not go on the internet at all.
Since you are certainly going to go on the net, then you are accepting some risk. Next I would say there are risks in downloading, but among the different protocalls, bit torrent is perhaps the safest.
Any altered pieces of your download will be deleted, so the only way a virus or spyware is going to be in the files, is if it was included with the orignal files.
Assuming your AnitVirus is upto date, and you do regular scans, then I would say its pretty safe.
I would also try to get your torrents from relyable sites.

I run avast 4.7 antivirus protection and my internet comes through a router that i beleive has a firewall on it.
Do u think i would be fine to go ahead and look into Bit comet?

yes it will be fine to look into bitcomet. if you want to be extra safe just scan everything you download with avast before you use it!
