seeding

i guess i am kind of new to this the only problem i am having is with the seeding part, can anyone help me? Thanx

After the task reaches 100% completion (the download completes) the icon of the task will change to an upward red arrow. From that point on, the task is seeding.

Just leave it running until you reach at least a share ratio of 1.5-2.0.

Your client automatically starts trying to upload, as Wiz says.

Now if you watch the upload rate and the connected peers for that task, you may see some upload activity. When you do have connected peers, and upload activity of more than 1 KB/s, you know you are actually seeding to someone.

You can also look at your U/D ratio for this torrent. If it increases over time, you know that you have been seeding. If it remains the same for several days, then you know you’ve been offering, but nobody has actually taken anything you’ve offered.

That may indicate that you are running too many tasks and are not a desirable or reliable uploader. But if this is a private tracker, that situation is common: dozens of would-be uploaders, but few or no downloaders. You will need to take steps to resolve this, though it may be more difficult in the latter case.

Just to add to what kluelos said; in order to be able to actually upload towards others and thus increase the share ratio you ABSOLUTELY need to have an open listening port. Otherwise other peers won’t be able to contact you and initiate any download from you, even though the task will be available for uploading in your Task List.

Not to be the bearer of bad news but, since this section is for introducing yourself and not for support…

this topic is being moved to BitComet General Discussions.

BTW, welcome to the forums!
