:frowning: someone help? i unplugged router and connected laptop directly to the speedstream modem with the ethernet wire but i can’t seem to get high d/l speeds.. and the torrent has over 1000+ seeds and peers

so if anyone managed to fix this problem advice would be welcome. (using .70 version)

btw i read all the guides and still in a baffle whats a static ip for?

hmmmm i got SP2… maybe thats that prob? i diable firewall and shut off norton… what could be the prob?

i tried to use azereus but it told me that there may be a nat problem

If your not using your router, then you need to disable uPnP.

as there is no need for it.

If you are using your router, then its best to manually configure your ports, and set a static IP address in windows, for each computer on your network.

Portforward.com has guides for this.

My opinion of uPnP is that microsoft has had a dozen years to perfect Plug n play, and its still crap. However, I’m sure it works for someone.

If you connect to the internet without a firewall, expect infection. Very bad idea.

When you connect your computer directly to the modem, you have to follow your ISP’s rules in order to connect.

When you use a router, it’s the router, on its WAN side, that has to follow the ISP’s rules. On its other side, the LAN side, the rules are mostly whatever you say they are.

Most routers have firewalls built-in. You can open the firewall to traffic on a particular port or ports, but as a security measure, you can only open them to specific LAN-side IP addresses. The static IP, used only with a router, is set in order to make sure that a forwarded port is going to the right computer, whose IP it matches. If you use a dynamic IP instead, it can and will change, and when it changes, the port is no longer open for your computer at its new address.

I believe you said you followed the settings guide, did you not?

If so, then please tell me what is your max upload speed, and download speed you got when running speed test?

Also, what did you set your global max upload rate to in your client?

I think your problem is very simple, and you mis adjusted something.

This is a different type of plug and play. And this might surprise you but this isn’t all Microsoft’s fault. Different router brands all make their own versions of UPnP. Basically there is not standard in this area for routers. And yes I have seen it work for some people, if they’re crazy enough to rely on it instead of portforwarding.

I agree that it isn’t all microsofts fault, but it’s more fun to blame them :stuck_out_tongue:

although, they are the only company that could require windows plug and play to follow certain guidelines, but I can only imagine what microsoft has gone through in the last few decades while countless computer component makers are pushing new hardware out on the market, and software developers trying to adapt to is, and microsoft trying to make all this crap run on their operating system… This would give anyone a lifelong headache.

However, they got to be on top by developing software they begged, borrowed and stole, and now they not only want us to pay several hundred Dollars (usd) for the right to use their product (a product that they can reproduce at pennies a copy), they want us to buy it again, and again every few years.

This is why so many people dislike microsoft.

Another reason is this new “genuine advantage crap”. I have a legit copy of WinXp on my computers, and I don’t need more useless processes running in the background calling home to report if my windows is legit.

I also hate the fact that I’m not permitted to install my personal copy of windows on each computer I own/use. They want me to purchase several copies, and replace them all regularly. This is crazy.

Another fact is that some of the pirated copies of windows run much faster then a legit copy…
