I am thinking of unistalling v0.56 and installing the latest v0.68. Are there any potential problems and will I lose any current unfinished torrents?

You shouldn’t lose any of your torrent downloads. However, we recommend you to finish downloading all your torrents first, before switching/upgrading to the latest version.
Normally, with all upgrading, BitComet should keep all the torrents within your task list, but it’s better not to take that risk. However, if you do plan to upgrade to the latest version, be sure to also keep the torrent files themselves, so that you can re-open them in BitComet incase all your download tasks disappear, because this has happened before.
And finally, a word of advice 0.68 seems to encounter alot of errors, stick to 0.64 if you just want the DHT network installed in your client.
