What version is your BitComet? What do you mean by “doesn’t connect”?

Also, if you want to use vpn for file sharing you’ll need to use a premium service and find one that provides you a unique listening port, without that your performance will suffer greatly if it works at all, and depending how they designed this service it may connect only your browser using an extension or other plugin, or it may affect the computer’s connection and run all internet traffic through the vpn server and if that’s the case it will require an open port for bitcomet and a separate one if you use the emule plugin for bitcomet.
I think you can use hidemyass aka HMA, it works like charm and never crash
CyberGhost has a decent rep.
Maybe start with looking through their website to see if they have any special settings for you. Because they do try to hide your IP, which can be a problem for file sharing.
