bbeenn
Hi, just wondered if anyone could help me out with a problem. I am trying to download some Rapidshare links using Bitcomet (v1.15), but each time I open the link, the file size is too small (roughly 26kb) when they should be much bigger. This happens for every Rapidshare file I try to download. I have never experienced this before, but I only recently changed from Windows Vista to Windows 7, and didn't know whether anyone had experienced similar or knew what I could try to sort it out :( :( help
greywizard
Have you ever downloaded stuff from rapidshare with BitComet before? What steps are you exactly following that get you to that error?
bbeenn
Hi, thanks for a quick reply-I regularly download using Rapidshare, and have only had the problem since changing to Windows 7. I find the link that I want, and click it, and usually that was enough, but I am now getting these small sized files-Usually if I download a 200MB file, it would say this, instead I am getting 26KB-Sorry if this seems a bit strange, but have been using Bitcomet and Rapidshare for years! And I just can't work this one out-Thanks for your help Edited October 17, 2009 by cassie (see edit history)
greywizard
Well, the reason I was asking is that I know that rapidshare has a timer delaying the download (except if you are a premium user. Are you?) which will block a direct download. At least that's the behavior I got always under Firefox and the result is a little file of only a few kb. That's why I was asking how do you acquire the link; from another site or by going to rapidshare first and downloading from within the site's web interface after the timer expired? What browser do you use? What browser did you use before?

greywizard
Hmm... I've never used an premium account at them. But it seems like you're being treated by the site like a standard user (i.e. not authenticated, logged off, session expired or something). Do you need to log on to their site or how does this work? How do they verify that you're a valid premium user prior to allowing you to download? Fill us in on how is rapidshare authenticating you prior to download. Did you check your account lately? kluelos
IS this actually a problem? I mean, what happens if you just roll with the flow, let it download that small thing (whatever it is), and continue? Do you then get your large download? This may be a routine part of Rapidshare downloads that has been going on all along, but you or Win7 are just now noticing/making an issue of it. We need to rule that out. greywizard
I guess what he means is that all he gets is that little file. At least that's what I get when trying to download in BitComet a link from another site which points to .rar file hosted on rapidshare. That's because for the free users, they have a timer in place which prevents the immediate download. However if you open that link instead, in a browser and wait to finish the timer period you can add the download in a download manager. The premium account is supposedly eliminating the need for both these things (waiting and going to rapidshare's site). But since I've never used a premium account with them, I have no idea how are they performing the authentication of the user when he comes via a link from another site. Vasy
You should try using their download manager. Also, delete all your cookies and try logging in again.
greywizard
Well, the same questions that I've asked in my penultimate post and he didn't bother to answer anymore, stand for you too.
coolnegative
i had a similar problem. what worked for me, or rather what i was doing wrong was, clicking "download file with bit comet" instead of clicking "save file with..." i clicked save file with "browse" and changed the default to bit comet. then i clicked the "save file with bit comet" and that did the trick. that opened bit comet and downloaded task. what was happening before was that it was only downloading the html address of the file, that's why the file sizes are so small.
