Locutus78
To start off I am new, and a noob to downloading via torrent. That being said, a fried of mine came over and setup my BitComet, and I was off to the races. Able to DL and share at will. Since the update, I can't do much of anything. Everytime, anything I am trying to download gets going, and I could walk away from my computer.....I get that stupid "not responding" error and has to shut down, and would I like to send the error message. Anyone have any idea, or how I can fix. 1. BitComet 1.16 2. Cable --Communistcast 3. Wireless G Rougter--Linksys 4. XP w/SP3, no firewal, Avast Edited November 24, 2009 by Locutus78 (see edit history)

Locutus78
A screen comes up and it says the following: 1.16BitComet.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience Please tell us about the problem to help us diagnose the cause of this error and improve BitComet. We have created an error report that you can send to us. Please click "Send Error Report" below to send us the report. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. Then there is a space to type what you were doing, and a send or don't send button
kluelos
That happened to me a lot with 1.16 too. I've downgraded to 1.15, which is what I recommend that you try. When future versions are released, give them a try but be prepared to retreat to 1.15 (or whatever is the last version that's stable on your system) if the new one doesn't work right. greywizard
kluelos & locutus78 what OS are you using? I'm asking just out of curiosity, because on my XP SP3, BC v.1.16 never crashed, even once, since I've installed it. And I've installed it as soon as it was out. Have been loading tasklists with even 200+ tasks, running multiple tasks at once and doing all kind of stressful operations in BC but not a single error. So, I'm just curious if it's the later OSs or maybe other things that trigger that behavior.

greywizard
Ha! You're right cassie. I guess the age is catching up with me. :D It's weird. I use even the same antivirus and as I said, not even once has BC crashed. This brings me to the conclusion that, maybe, some other piece of software or hardware brings BC down to its knees. Did you find anything in the Windows event logs? Try to look for events which occur at the exact moment of BC crash. Maybe you will find something in the Application, System or Antivirus categories (although for me these have been pretty much useless, as they never seem to record any application crashes). Is the Avast P2P shield on? Have you tried running with it disabled?
kluelos
I'm currently/mostly on XP SP3. NOD32, Ashampoo Firewall, Windows Defender (since MBAM let me down).
