Missing downloads

Recommended Posts

Well this is a strange one! I recently changed version back to 0.70 but since then I can't find my downloaded files. They're not in the folder as set out in options, they definitly downloaded, they're not in the normal folder I used before changing version, I tried clicking on one and open directory but it says it cannot find it, I tried searching through windows but can't locate them, I tried temp folders etc no joy but the funny thing is I can preview them in full and skip through them so they must be on my hard drive somewhere, any ideas?

I have the same problem after reinstalling my laptop. I downloaded a big file (3.3Gb) and I'm seeding it now but I can't find it on my hard drive! It's not in the default directory nor anywhere else (I did a search on all my drives and nothing). When I try the OpenDir button in Bitcomet I get the message Location is not available... What happened to my file????

Very likely, it's in a location that your operating system is hiding from you. This is one of the reasons that we have that sticky topic marked "READ BEFORE POSTING" that tells you what information you need to include in your message, like, what operating system you're using? Because that's relevant?? So maybe you want to read that topic and include that information when you ask a question???

Well, applications can't write anymore (without elevation to admin token) in the Program Files folder on Vista or Win 7, since it's a system folder.

They are subject to a feature called data virtualization by which they get redirected in the VirtualStore folder under the user profile folder.

Therefore, your files should be found under: Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\BitComet.

You'd better choose a download folder which doesn't reside in a system folder, if you use Vista or Win 7.
