Daan_boy123
Hello, At first sorry for the bad english but i try'd to say it the best way i can. I have the problem that when i try to download a file from Torrent sharing there comes the screen with: Create new BitTorrent task. Thats normal but in the section Torrent content and there the section with the names of the files you are gonna download there is nothing. only the line: (Give save location when downloading torrent file). So i cant download anything because when i click on download now the download is yellow and just wont start! it always went well until i did something wrong i think. Can somebody help me to get this right? so i can download normal again? i use the version: BitComet 1.22 my internet connection is ADSL i think that is enough information to help me? if you want more information just say is. kluelos
You get the "give save location" message when you choose to download a Magnet Link, as opposed to downloading a .torrent file. A magnet link is one step earlier in the process. That is, you use the magnet link to get the .torrent file, THEN use the .torrent file to get the contents. As you are getting the .torrent file, you are not, therefore, downloading the contents yet. (Got to have the .torrent file first, before you can download the contents.) During this process of obtaining the .torrent via the magnet link, the arrow stays yellow -- BECAUSE you are not downloading the contents -- but the status changes to "Downloading". After a while, when/if BC finds and downloads the torrent, it will automatically switch to regular downloading mode. If you right-click on the task once you've got the .torrent, you have the opportunity to select "Save Torrent as", so that you can do that if you wish. It's a good idea to do so. Just save it to where you normally save .torrent files.
Daan_boy123
No you dont understand it i think. my problem is that there are no files to download in the torrent! when you double click on the torrent you get the screen with download now, download later and all these things but where normaly the files in the torrent are displayed there's now Only the line with (Give save location when downloading torrent file)
kluelos
There are no files to save because BitComet doesn't know what they are yet. That's because BitComet hasn't downloaded the .torrent file yet. BitComet uses the Magnet Link to learn where/how to get the .torrent file. THEN, when it's got the torrent file, BitComet will know what files are to be downloaded and the hash-codes to verify the pieces against. If you don't want to do it this way, then don't use Magnet Links.

greywizard
Are you talking specifically about Torrent Share or about Torrent Collection? If it's in the Torrent Share where you get this, it means that BitComet can't find/access the .torrent file for that task in the location where it's supposed to be (i.e. the BitComet\share folder). That could be due to a whole set of reasons and depending on your OS you could find that folder in different places.
Daan_boy123
i am talking about torrent collection...
greywizard
Well, Torrent Collection is entirely different from Torrent Share. You need to get your facts straight. Torrents which appear in Torrent Collection are not present on your machine but on the machines of other BitComet peers. Therefore, as kluelos already explained to you, your client needs to download first the .torrent file for that torrent, before knowing which files are contained in it and being able to start downloading. This .torrent file is downloaded from other BitComet peers, if available. Your client initiates a search through the DHT Network asking other peers if they have the .torrent file for that torrent. If it finds it quickly it will download it in a jiffy and you may not even notice that operation at all; you'll be immediately presented with the standard properties dialog, where you can see all the files of the torrent and everything. But if it doesn't find the .torrent file quickly (i.e. the peer which supplied the hash for that torrent isn't online anymore and others haven't responded yet) or it doesn't find it at all, you'll be stuck with the dialog that you see now; since your client doesn't have the .torrent file yet, it doesn't know what files it contains. So what you see is normal, the yellow color of the icon means that your client is trying to download a .torrent file for that task at present time. If it succeeds, it'll become green and you'll see the normal dialog. If not it may stay yellow until it finds the .torrent file for that task. If you don't want to wait just hit the "Download Now" or "Download Later" button, as soon as the .torrent file finished downloading, your task will become a normal one and will either start downloading or will just wait for you to start it, depending on your above choice. If you hit "Cancel" the client will still try to download the .torrent file, and once it succeeds you'll see a blue checkmark icon for that torrent and you'll be able to find it in Torrent History.
