Davfog
Hi My old router recently gave up the ghost and died. Now that Sky have sold me a new one, my beloved Bitcomet isn't working properly. I've checked all the settings as per the Wiki but still get the yellow light "Your Listen Port is Blocked. You can still dowload ..." 1) What version of BitComet are you using? 1.07 2) What type of Internet connection do you have (ADSL, etc.)? ADSL 3) Do you have a modem? Do you use a router? What make and model are each one of them? Have you forwarded your port? Router - D-Link DSL-2640S but not sure my port has been forwarded. 4) If you have more than one router, be sure to mention the make and model of both devices, how are they connected (i.e. in which connector of both devices is the network cable plugged) and which one of the devices is connected to or is the modem. Also, if you have more than one computer make sure to mention in this case, to which router is every one of them connected. N/A 5) What version of Windows, Firewall and Antivirus do you use? Windows Vista, Windows Firewall (all settings checked and are OK), AVG I've looked long and hard at the settings within the new router but can't find any reference to port-forwarding or listening ports. Can anyone out there offer any suggestions, please? Thank you. Dave
The UnUsual Suspect
Older d-link routers use the term "virtual server" rather then "portforward". The newer models have both settings, but you can successfully setup portforwarding by using the virtual server section. Portforward.com has guides for most routers, check there if you want a step by step guide with screenshots.
Davfog
Thank you Guardian Eagle Whilst I'm sure this will work, I'm looking for a cheaper option. Unfortunately, there isn't a virtual server section in my router admin screen, BTW, the GUI in the admin screen is Sky branded. Dave
greywizard
You mean the menus of your router's web interface are different from those ones presented for your device model, on portforward.com? Or what? If they are different then you'll have to consult your router's manual, since no one can actually guess what your menus look like. If they are not different, I don't see where the problem lies. There are very clear instructions on the site TUUS referred you to, on how to forward your port using the Security/Services and Security/Firewall Rules pages of the web interface. Vasy
What admin screen? Post screenshots. I'm not sure what you mean by "cheaper", the guides offered by portforward are completely free. They only sell software that does all this automatically. You can either choose to buy the program or you can skip their adds when selecting your router model. kluelos
Someone on another forum, talking about Sky service, said: by going to www.portforward.com and selecting this router, (skipping any ads offering to do it automatically, you won't need it! ) and slingbox option I got things going. I basically got the router configured first (the second part of the guide on portforward.com ) by going into "security" , "adding a custom service", then using the firewall exception. That may be of some help to you. As I understand Sky has customized the software, we don't have access to screens &c. Others have suggested this freeware: http://www.simpleportforwarding.com/download
Davfog
Sorry about that - I didn't see the "Skip Advertisement" message. Excellent clear instructions adhered to except I had to name the service "Name2" as I already have a "Name1" service. Unfortunately, the listen port in Bitcomet is still blocked. I've attached a screenshot of the Firewall Rules from the router. Thanks, Dave
greywizard
Well, your screenshot is pretty much useless. You've posted a 840x525 JPG image, 25.5KB in size out of which 3/4 are blank, which makes the usable part of the image only 320x262. A little smaller and you could have used it as an avatar image. Besides, at the file size it has, zooming is out of question. The "Name1" text meant that you should put inside whatever name you see fit (e.g "BitComet" or "Torrent client" or whatever not necessarily leave it to default). The authors of the guide thought it too obvious to provide instructions even for that.
Davfog
Hi Greywizard Please excuse me, I am fairly new to all this. This attachment should be better. The listen port is still blocked but the port forwarding seems to have worked OK. Cheers, Dave
Davfog
Right!!! Managed to sort out the problem, upgraded to version 1.25 and it's working OK now. I usually wait a while before upgrading to newer software versions in case there should be any "undocumented features". Maybe I waited too long to upgrade Bitcomet. Many thanks to those who offered help. Dave
