pepitz
Dear Forum mates, Could you please help me solve the following problem: Using BitComet v.1.27 the download process of a torrent file stopped at 96% and now shows Transfer status "Connecting..."in the Statistics tab from the Detailed Info Pane. - In the same Pane both the Seeds and Peers are "0 of 0 connected" -Task bar shows download incomplete: aprx 32MB left from total size 868.78MB -Listen port TCP and UDP: Opened -Windows firewall: Added[TCP opened, UDP opened] -UPnP NAT Port: Added ... in the status bar: DHT Connected: 0 and WAN IP: Connected (Green lights) System info> I'm operating under windows XP, SP3 and using BitComet v1.27. Prior to this issue, I was only downloading, because I was trying at the same time to open the Listen ports of my NAT router. Eventually I unblocked the portforwarding (thanks to BitComet'step-by-step procedure), but now can not complete the rest of the task! With respect to the forum rules I tried to find an already posted solution, but I couldn't. Thanks in advance.
The UnUsual Suspect
Hi, First I'll mention a common misuse of terms. the download process of a torrent file stopped at 96% This should say "torrent task", as a torrent file is a very small text file that BitComet uses to download the task, and I'm fairly confident you were referring to the task, not the file. both the Seeds and Peers are "0 of 0 connected This tells us a lot. If there are no seeds and peers, then the task will never complete. However please check your "trackers" tab in the lower pane and report any error messages if present. If there are no errors, and no peers reported by the tracker, then the torrent task is dead and will never complete. In this case, you can let it run in hopes that some seeders will return, or you can request a reseed at the website you got the torrent from. pepitz
Hi UnUsual Suspect, and thanks for the clarifications. There is an error reported in the Tracker section with message "Tracker responce error: Invalid passkey (0-$passk...)" Going back to your comment. What you meant "...let it run in hopes that some seeders will return, or you can request a reseed at the website you got the torrent from."? Does this mean that there could be no one transmitting or downloading this torrent file at the the same time time a tried? Thank you, Petar
The UnUsual Suspect
This is simple. Someone took a private torrent and posted it on a public website where it had no business being posted. A "passkey" is a unique identification that shows the tracker which member you are. Since there were many users on the same passkey, the member who posted the torrent was banned. Unfortunately, this means that you will never be able to complete the download. What you may be able to do is join that private tracker (if registrations are open), and redownload the torrent with your own passkey then continue the download. People who post private torrents on public sites are very annoying to both users (such as yourself) and to private tracker admins (such as myself). All it does it makes a lot of people unhappy and gets the persons account banned, yet there seems to be an endless supply of idiots to keep doing this. greywizard
Not to mention that most private tracker admins do not forbid uploading the content you downloaded from their site, provided that you make a NEW torrent out of it and upload it on another site. Therefore, private torrents uploaded by lazy arse or idiot users who can't come up with a .torrent file of their own to upload (even though it's trivial to create in any BitTorrent client once you have the content) should be completely ignored along with their torrents. kluelos
Pepitz, to clarify TUUS' remark, he meant that if this was not a private torrent, but a public one, then you could go to the site that it came from and request a reseed there. Since it IS a private torrent that should never have been posted on public trackers, asking for a reseed isn't necessary/won't work. You could/should instead try to join that private site and download the torrent directly from them. (Just delete your existing .torrent file and start over when you are accepted as a member of the site.)
