chrisppm
Hello everybody, I have win 7 ultimate here with Avast anti virus. Running BitComet 1.28 and have purchased 10g bandwidth, have checked the required ports are open, but nothing is happening. on the left it keeps telling me to sign in, yet the top menu stares to log out ! I can not enable VIP it asks me to sign in , that's 3 conflicting answers, and if I do sign in still nothing happens your comments would be appreciated
kluelos
No ports are required. "... stares to log out!" - What???? If you haven't successfully logged in to CometID, you can't access your VIP account. A better definition of "nothing happens" might be more useful. chrisppm
Sorry about that , fat fingers, I start the software, the file I'm trying to get is absolutely not moving, the bottom left panel tells me to sign in, on the uppermost menu, labelled Comet-id it gives me the option to log out !I cannot get VIP going despite purchasing some bandwidth Christopher
chrisppm
ah I know what it is, I don't seem to be able to sign in, wonder why
The UnUsual Suspect
are you using any IP filtering programs like peer guardian or peer block?
kluelos
You could try taking the option to log out, then see if anything has changed.
chrisppm
well the login seems to be working now, so a delay on the server might be the answer to that, but still not working right. I went to the pirate bay to get a music video, it's listed in the main section complete with a green download arrow, I have enabled VIP to get it down , but it's not coming, any ideas please. Also the peers section along the bottom, what is that ? it seems abit of a mess
The UnUsual Suspect
Can you explain what you mean about the peers column being a mess please? Posting a screenshot would be helpful, we have a couple good guides to help you with that if needed. Also, Vip is still in beta testing so some bugs are to be expected. We have seen some tasks that fail to prepare your download channel. The failure rate mostly consists of newly created torrents, but some older ones have failed too. Perhaps you can try a different torrent and report if it works.
chrisppm
Hi all I enclose a screen shot of the software, the clock is running but nothing seems to download what ever torrent I choose
The UnUsual Suspect
When you say "the clock is running", what do you mean by that? Also, the "peers" tab will show you the computers you connect to in order to download. You can connect to bittorrent peers, emule peers, LTseed peers, http/ftp peers and to our VIP server. If you enabled VIP on this task, do you have LTseed enabled, and did you enable anonymous download? Please show us what you mean by the peers tab being a "mess". ps. If you're worried about your vip expiring before you can use it, I'll ask someone from development to help if that should happen. We may have to wait until after the national holiday (October 7th) though, but we'll make sure you have time to use it.
greywizard
In the screenshot that you posted VIP doesn't even seem to be enabled (the VIP letters in the VIP column should have a orange-yellow color if it was). On the other hand, your task has 0 peers reported so even if VIP was enabled there is nothing it could do. If the torrent is dead VIP cannot revive it. chrisppm
Hello , right there is a clock running for the download I presume. Right I have a screen shot of the peers, 1 is connected but you'll see what I mean
The UnUsual Suspect
This explains the problem seeds/peers 0/0 [0/111] There are no seeders and 111 people trying to download it, but will never succeed since it's not seeded. chrisppm
Right getting to understand, one thing though, searching for a movie, I have found it but the site requires you join, is it nessesary to join all the sites for what you want please ? The UnUsual Suspect
most public sites don't require registration, and there are some malicious advertisements that look like torrent names claiming to have exactly what your looking for, but are really scams, so be careful. I'd recommend Demonoid.me, they tend to remove all the bad stuff and the people who post it. You don't have to register, and registration is usually by invite only, but if you check the site every day, you'll catch them when registration is open to the public, just be persistent. You definitely want to register there, if you can. Good luck
chrisppm
soory about this but did a search via torrent z and it came up with 3 possibilites , but when i try to get it it comes up withe the screen attached, is this what you would call a scam site please ? The UnUsual Suspect
Yeah, that's a scam alright. If you do to torrentz and type in something really stupid, like... Stupid F@#Kin scams DVDrip You'll get a bunch of ads (sponsored links) claming to have that exact movie. A lot of these sleezy torrent sites will sell adspace to anyone. I'd never go to torrentz. The only public trackers I use are demonoid and sometimes thepiratebay. ps. there was a little independent band "One Soul Thrust", that claimed they had enough illegal downloads to have a platinum album because of these ads laiming thousands of downloads. It even made the worldwide media, and the funny thing is when their only album was pirated, only one site on the entire planet grabbed it, and it got zero downloads lol not even one single illegal download. kluelos
No matter what you are searching for, you will come across sites like that one, that claim to have it. After you have joined and paid your money, you will find out that they don't -- and that you, while joining, agreed that they aren't responsible for not having any particular download, so they don't even owe you your money back. These sites are trying to sell you what you can get for free -- the bittorrent network. Most of these people don't even run their own tracker, they're taking your money to point you to free public trackers. They will provide some very modest tech support, but you can get that for free too, just by reading our Guides and Tutorials forum. After some experience you will come to recognize most of these sites by format, and then eventually by name, so you won't even bother with search results from them. (I sure wish you could have a personal blacklist of web sites in Google.)
