The UnUsual Suspect
Did you install the 32 or 64bit version? Did you install from a user account with administrator privileges? What is your cpu type and speed? Amount of ram memory? You can also try the .zip version which doesn't require installation, see if it will run without failing to respond. PLTCOMET01
Thanks for your prompt reply. Did you install the 32 or 64bit version? 32bit Did you install from a user account with administrator privileges? yes What is your cpu type and speed? Celeron 1.8 Ghz Amount of ram memory? 1 GB You can also try the .zip version which doesn't require installation, see if it will run Downloaded and extracted 1.37 ZIP to folder. The BitComet.exe won't run, gives same error msg "BitComet is not responding. Do you want to end the program immediately etc.
The UnUsual Suspect
I think the problem could be that you are low on resources. I'd recommend adding more ram memory and you might consider a cpu upgrade too. Ram is pretty cheap now and with your windows XP you can fully use 3gb of ram on almost any computer. Alternatively you may find that bitcomet will work and your computer may run much smoother if a fresh install of winXP is used or a lean installation that doesn't include a lot of the unnecessary features. If you can get bitcomet running you might want to try disabling all of the advanced features so it behaves only as a classic bittorrent client therefore requiring less resources. You can also try BitComet version 0.70, it's very old but was a favorite of many and should have no problem running on older equipment. Some of the older versions of uTorrent were pretty good too, but you cannot get them from official sources, but all versions of BitComet can be downloaded from our archives (link in signature). I highly recommend you avoid versions .71 to about .85 or so.
PLTCOMET01
Thanks ! d/l 0.70 and it runs OK I will follow up on your other suggestions too.
The UnUsual Suspect
Sounds good, let us know how you make out. If you can get at least another gb of ram installed you'll probably have no problem running the latest version. It will probably run on your system without it, but you may need to do some cleanup to free-up your resources. With .70 you'll have a good stable bittorrent client, you won't have some of the advanced features that really make bitcomet stand out today, but it will work as good as any other bittorrent client.
