Kardde
I have recently begun encountering some odd problems when using BitTorrents and BitComet. Normally it works fine, I generally get download speeds of around 150 to 200. But every 30 minutes or so I lose my Internet connection entirely. The only way to reestablish it is to physically unplug my cable modem, wait about ten seconds, and plug it back in. I'm currently on a wireless connection, using a Linksys WRT54G v5 router with a Surfboard cable modem from Comcast (muh) in Massachusetts. Whenever I have torrents going, I have PeerGuardian running on my computer. I use ZoneAlarm as a software firewall, and the torrent ports are correctly forwarded. Ports are also forwarded correctly on the Linksys router, and it's running the latest firmware. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. My disconnects are almost like clockwork at this point, and it's with any torrent program (uTorrent, Azureus) as well as any program that uses torrents to download (ElectricSheep screensaver). Could the problem lie with Comcast? I know they're notoriously unfriendly to torrents. My suspicion is that it's a bad modem, but I've run torrents just fine with this modem before, and this is a relatively new problem. Any advice would be appreciated. dimchopicha2003
The problem is in Linksys WRT54G v5 (this v5 is the firmware or what?). Check my signature for details. Try to fix it like this: I have 64KB/s downlaod and 16KB/s upload. I have bad router too. Limit my download to 53KB/s and my upload to 10KB/s and my problem was fixed try to do this for your bandwidth.

The v5 is the hardware version, which apparently doesn't have the same problem as the earlier WRT54G's. It's currently running firmware version 1.00.9, which I believe is the latest firmware from Linksys. I will try to change the bandwidth limits to see if that fixes anything. dimchopicha2003
Linksys WRT54G v5 added to the list. Check the FAQ's. There were something about these routers there. And much more. There are many workarounds that you can try. Edited July 30, 2006 by dimchopicha2003 (see edit history)
Dark_Shroud
For starters just check the firmware, Linksys actually fix a lot of their problems. People just don't keep up with the firmware. Also surfboard cable modem suck as well.
