realutd7
What are the ways to watch a torrent which is still in the process of downloading? I can right click on the file (already 93.2% downloaded) and choose "Preview Video File". BitComet Preview pops up, but then it says "Media file Playback Error! Maybe some necessary audio/video codec is not installed in your system. Do you want to run Bitcomet video codec check wizard?" So I press yes and find out that I need to download Realplayer and Media Player Classic. I download this and preview it again. It says the same exact thing, and i press yes to find out what else i need to download. It says i have all three required video codec things. But I still can't watch it. So is there something i need to do? Or perhaps another way to view it?
dimchopicha2003
This is the way of watching. You need to install the latest codects. The easiest way of installing the needed codecs is to go on free-codecs.com and download and install: DivX 6.2.5, Koepi's XviD Codec, AC3 Filter. If you don't want to install them one by one download K-Lite Codec Pack and install it. If you want to watch *.mov and *.rm videos download and install Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative. realutd7
I installed K-Lite Codec Pack (standard version) and then tried to preview the file again, but the same thing happened. I'll explain everything now step by step, and tell me what i'm doing wrong - Right-click on file - Click on "Preview Video File..." - BitComet Preview pops up - few seconds later, sign pops up saying "Media file Playback Error! Maybe some necessary audio/video codec is not installed in your system. Do you want to run Bitcomet video codec check wizard?" - If i press 'no', then nothing happens. If i press 'yes', it leads me to the next part which says they found everything needed, and that "This system is able to playback Real Media file" - That's the end of it and nothing happens
The UnUsual Suspect
One thing to consider, is if there are seeders present in the torrent, but it will not finish, you may have a "bad" torrent... http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_torrents Although most of these are designed to fail at slightly higher percentages, I'm sure this could possibly be the case with yours. If there are no seeders, then perhaps visit the tracker website and request someone to seed it for you. Suspect

realutd7
just in case i am not being clear, let me say it again.. there are torrents which are still downloading. it is not at 100%, and it is also not at 0% is there any way to view the downloaded parts of the torrent? The UnUsual Suspect
I personally don't recommend doing this. Sometimes you can view a video, but there is a good chance that will cause problems. I prefer to wait till it is done. Suspect
dimchopicha2003
what is the extension of the video file you are tring to watch? Check this by clicking on files menu in the bottom left corner of BC transfer page. You should see something like this: My_good_video."the extension of the video file".bc Tell us what is the extension before .bc
realutd7
i'm not good with computer knowledge or words, but i think 'mpg' is the extension of the file that i see before .bc just in case i got it wrong, this is all i see before .bc X Men 3 - The Last Stand\X Men 3 - The Last Stand TS 1 CD-R VCD(with after credit scene).mpg
kluelos
You should try the free VLC player from videolan.org for your previews. It will handle most types of video and audio files (though not all) and doesn't use the system filters at all. It will try to handle incomplete files and usually does a decent job of it. Much depends on how much of the file is complete and how fragmented the completed portion is, but it is generally more satisfactory than BitComet's preview function. It's also a really good player period, so I use it for my default viewer of choice.
dimchopicha2003
yes this is called the extension. in this case the extension is *.bc but this is temporary extension for unfinished torrent tasks and when the file is downloaded the extension will be *.mpg. Normally you should be able to preview this file. Note that there is no 100% guarantee that you will be able to preview a file even if you have all the needed codecs. If you have time you can try to uninstall all your real players, quicktime players, klite codecs; then restart your pc and install: DivX 6.2.5, Koepi's XviD Codec, AC3 Filter and if the file is playable you should be able to play it/preview it without problems. If the files still can't be played then the problem is in the file not in your codecs/in you pc/in Bitcomet.
