Henry Rawlinson
Hello. I'm usually using my laptop during the day so I tend to leave it on at night if I'm downloading anything, but when I look at it the next day it seems it has stopped after a few hours, and hasn't really progressed very far, which is irritating. Previously the problem was that my laptop starts hibernating after a few hours, but I've turned that off now, and yet every time I look at torrents in the morning they've barely got anywhere, and they've always stopped by the time I look at them. How do I avoid all this, and have them running properly all night? Cheers!
bitdave
Besides hibernating there is also standby mode and there is also an option that turns off your hard disc. To avoid these in the power options you should have it set to Portable/Laptop And under the Laptop plugged in options set standby to Never and set turn off hard disc to Never; its OK to let the monitor turn off Dont change the options under Laptop running on batteries unless you want to. Also in Bitcomets preferences there is an option that should be checked that keeps the PC from going into standby mode.
Henry Rawlinson
Yup, standby is always off, as is the hard drive turning off option, and the option in BitComet to avoid system supsend mode is on. Which is why I asked, really, because there doesn't seem to be any obvious problem.
bitdave
Interesting, When you say stopped do you mean that the task is actually stopped or is it just not downloading or uploading any data???
Henry Rawlinson
Oh no, the task hasn't stopped, it just isn't uploading/downloading.
kluelos
Some laptops, and even some desktops, have a "hibernate network card" option hidden in the BIOS. You may want to check whether yours is one, and whether the settings are correct if it is there. When you look at it in the morning, are there any error indications from either the log or the tracker summary?
bitdave
Besides a wireless card problem or a tracker problem as kluelos mentioned How many seeders and how many peers are on the torrents that arent transfering data??? maybe the torrents are just dead torrents with no seeders
Dark_Forge99
Funny, I have the same problem too. It just doesn't occur every time I leave Bitcomet on overnight...
Henry Rawlinson
Kluelos, I don't think there are any errors from the log - I'll have to check next time - and I'm not sure how to check whether I've got a "hibernate network card"... Bitdave, it definitely isn't that the torrents are dead. Usually I close and reopen the program and they get going again. Strangely enough it didn't do it last night. Instead of leaving the main screen open, I minimised it, and when I looked at it this morning the torrents were all running fine. So maybe that's the problem? That does seem a slightly odd solution, but I'll be happy if it's what the only problem is.
