go4h2o
I am also feeling alone in this whole community. I will now be chastized for not reading all the rules. Bull. I have been a member since 2008 and now A LC with score of 84365. Some time when I had no need, actually never had a need to come here, login stopped working in the CLIENT. Done everything imaginamble and a few things not. Can login to all BitComet ANYTHING, yet not the client. Anyone want to lower themselves to offer a "new" option? or am I to go on thinking I have to "buy" a vip acceleration to get the bennies of my uploading??? Please don't bother belittling me. When we point a finger, ther's three more pointing back. And no, I did not spellcheck this. *email removed by staff* (not a good idea to post your email in public) Edited August 2, 2014 by The UnUsual Suspect to remove email address (see edit history)
The UnUsual Suspect
You don't have to buy vip nor do I recommend it but you do have to post your question in the proper section and include more information. I'd start with the link in my signature.
pudman56
This is going to sound so pedestrian to you, of that I'm sure, but the difference between uploading and just leaving a download running to share is something I don't understand. The reason I bring it up is because when logging in (as a newbie to registering, not to Bit Comet) it tells me it won't save my info as I'm not uploading anything. 99.9% of my DL's are from over 50 years ago through today. My upload column while downloading always says 0. I'm an old rocker, I don't think many people listen to what I did back in the late 60's and 70's and that's one problem. Is there something I specifically have to do with a file that makes it upload and if so...what? cassie
the difference between uploading and just leaving a download running to share is something I don't understand. When you just leave a downloaded file running you are an additonal seed in the swarm. When you upload a file to a website/tracker you are the initial seed. 99.9% of my DL's are from over 50 years ago through today. My upload column while downloading always says 0. I'm an old rocker, I don't think many people listen to what I did back in the late 60's and 70's and that's one problem. That sometimes happens (it's personally happened to me on numerous occasions)...the only thing that you can do is leave it running in case someone strolls by looking for those files (if there's still no movement, it's not using up your bandwidth anyway, so it won't harm you by leaving it active) The reason I bring it up is because when logging in (as a newbie to registering, not to Bit Comet) it tells me it won't save my info as I'm not uploading anything. Unless I've answered this in the previous paragraph, I'm not sure that I fully understand this statement...perhaps you could elaborate a little more? Are you talking about registering your original file with a tracker site?
The UnUsual Suspect
In addition to what Cassie said, if your torrent continues to run you will seed to all members of the swarm, and in addition to this if your task is stopped and you are logged in to your CometID account, you may still upload using LTseed (long term seeding). This only takes place when your internet connection isn't being used and so far only BitComet peers have added this technology and can download from LTseed. I've witnessed torrents where there was no seeds and many peers stuck with unfinished torrent, when suddenly a LTseed appeared and I quickly completed my download and was able to share with the non bitcomet peers and revive a long dead torrent, and since LTseed identifies the specific files in a torrent rather than just the torrent's specific hash signature, it can download the files from non-bittorrent sources, like emule, http/ftp sources, or other torrents with some or all of the same content. This technology is what makes BitComet (arguably) the most advanced download client in the world. Also, if you are downloading tasks that aren't very popular this can be a problem and you may want to install the emule plugin as the emule technology is better for obscure files and could find and download them for you from emule, or you could learn to use emule and find servers that specialize in the content you are looking for. I'm not a fan of emule, but it has found some obscure files for me more than once.
