downloads not starting or even connected to anything

Recommended Posts

I've given up on Vista and gone back to xp but bitcommet still won't work.

The downloads open as normal but won't connect to anything. It doesn't even have anything in the peers window.

I've tried lots of files to see if it is just a lack of seeders (eventhough i never try to download if there isn't lots of seeders).

Default tracker optimization rules file loaded.

IP rules file: ipfilter.dat loaded, 0 entries.

I don't understand these 4 lines "Windows XP WF Status: TCP Port is not opened in Windows Firewall.

Windows XP WF Status: add TCP port in Windows Firewall Succeed.

Windows XP WF Status: UDP Port is not opened in Windows Firewall.

Windows XP WF Status: add UDP port in Windows Firewall Succeed."

Could this be a firewall issue? I've checked to make sure bitcomet is listed as an exception and it is.

you should try to look at the traker meniu of the torrent to see if youre client is banned, or might be the firrewall(cas you don't let bittcomet have all the connections he wants)I don't know... try the first art and see if it says in any way banned...

Hi Slothmaster and the others,

Try the next things.

- disable XP Firewall and use another such as Sygate, Kerio, etc.

- disable the settings in BitComet related to ICF (settings 2,3 and 4 in "connection")

- disable IP.filter and use Peergardian 2

Here is a nice explanation of tracker error messages and what they mean

http://forum.mininova.org/index.php?showtopic=9833

If it only happens every now and then, that just means its a problem with the tracker

If it happens for every torrent no matter what tracker, then you have a firewall issue

So make sure whatever firewall(s) you have are set up properly

or

Sometimes it's your ISPs firewall that is doing the blocking

Who is your ISP?

Disable Windows Firewall & connect to BitComet again. U will definitely see a change in Windows XP UPnP status.

Now, disconnect BitComet. Now, visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886257 and follow Method 2. Its more easy. Once you see the Default Gateway, close that window. Turn On Windows Firewall. Connect to BitComet and try downloading any torrent. Is your problem solved? Has your download speed increased?

Once again, this is horrible advice. Do NOT connect to the internet without a firewall, and if you already did, you need to completely disinfect your system for viruses, adware, and spyware. (No one product will do all of that.) Send the cleaning bill to Alphaboy.

Nor is this one setting the answer to all problems - in this case it's not even relevant, the issue is the tracker connection. For that, see BitDave's post.
