Haji11
Hello all. I recently downloaded BitComet .77 (switched from Bittornado) and so far I really like it except for one thing: After it's shut down it keeps trying to access the network. No tasks running or anything, and I can't find any settings where it would need to contact it. It keeps trying every few minutes, I finally had to make my firewall block access from it for now. Is there any way to make BC close down and stay quiet? Any clues on why it keeps trying to access the network after shut down? Thanks! -edit- Actually, it looks like external sources are trying to access bitcomet, not the other way around. :(
kluelos
0.77 isn't a stable version. You should stick with the latest stable version, 0.70, until another stable release comes along. Your issue is common to all bittorrent clients, not just BitComet. When you shut your client down, the rest of the swarm doesn't know that you did, so they keep trying to contact you. As time passes, they individually re-scrape the tracker, get the updated list of swarm members, find out that you're not on it anymore, and eventually stop trying to contact you. That's a gradual process and can take 20-30 minutes, but it doesn't hurt anything while they try. So it's not generally BitComet trying to access the network, rather it's other peers trying to access your BitComet. Part of this does depend on exactly how you shut down BitComet. If you just close the window, rather than using the Exit button, your tracker statistics will not be updated, so be aware of that. If you set the existing tasks to "pause", that's a gradual process while communication currently in progress finishes up.

The UnUsual Suspect
-edit- Actually, it looks like external sources are trying to access bitcomet, not the other way around. :( This is normal, Until peers receive update from the tracker, they will assume you are still online and active, and you will continue to receive attempted remote connection attempts. Once the tracker informs peers your no longer active, these will stop. Suspect
