diarmaidsays
I have downloaded many video files, and some of them play when i right click and then go to 'preview video file'. I cannot open any of these torrents with vlc media player or any other media player. When I try with vlc media player a small toolbar window pops up and nothing else happens. Seems like I'm doing something very basic wrong.
kluelos
You haven't really provided enough information. You did know, right, that you cannot play a .torrent file? Your question is murky enough that I can't tell whether you got that part or not.
diarmaidsays
After I have downloaded a movie and saved it, I try to open the file using vlc media player or media player classic but vlc media player won't play them and media player classic says 'cannot render file'. When you say I cannot play a torrent, do you mean that I must open the file using some kind of media player?
kluelos
No, I don't. We get a lot of questions from people who don't understand that you cannot play the .torrent file itself, you have to open it with your bittorrent client and download the content, then play THAT. Your question was unclear enough that I could not tell if that was what you were asking. You will need to determine just what sort of file it is that you have downloaded. A full filename would probably help a lot in determining that, but you haven't provided the information. Many video and audio files are, foolishly, enclosed in archives. Archives are good for file compression, but modern video and audio formats are already as compressed as they can be, so archiving them just wastes time. You might have an archive but, again, we can't tell because you didn't provide a filename.
diarmaidsays
Here are a few examples of files I've been trying to watch. They're both downloaded to 100% having been opened with bittorrent client The.Prestige.[TS-Screener].[AXWELL].[WwW.HQToRrEnTs.CoM].rar Pans.Labyrinth.[DVD-Screener].[G-TEAM].[WwW.HQToRrEnTs.CoM].rar
The UnUsual Suspect
a "file.rar" is a compressed archive, like a .zip file. Once you extract the archive, you will then have a usable video file. Please download WinRar, be sure to get it from RarLabs directly, they have a free trial version. After you install it, you won't even have to start the program, just locate the file.rar (in windows, not in bit comet), the "right click" and select "extract here". If you continue to have problems, then post the full file names, with extension. Its hard to help you if we don't know what you downloaded.
