Please help, new to this, very slow downloads

Recommended Posts

Please can anyone point me in the right direction.

If I do a file download from the web I get speeds between say 50 and 200 KB/sec.

I am using BitComet .77 and get 0 to 3 KB/sec.

I have a USRobotics 9108 modem / router. Windowx XP.

I have used the TCP/IP patch thingy!

I have tried setting the ports up as described on here, but have changed back to upnp on the router and the program as it seems no different.

I have done a speed test on my ISP tools page (www.f9.co.uk) and it shows I can dowload at 250 KB/sec.

What have I missed? My mate (who also knows very little about this) gets high speed downloads and he just installed bitcommet and did nothing else!!

It took all night just to download a 250meg file.

Am I expecting too much from my pc / router or should I be able to download at similar speeds to when I use say microsoft.com and get 250 megs in a few minutes.

Thanks

Adrian Smith

Bittorrent is utterly unlike downloading from a file server. The two have no relationship and are not indicative of each other's performance.

Read and follow the settings guide to configure your client properly.
