gbrett
I had BC 0.59 and the world was good. My wife elected to upgrade to the new version 0.79 and the world has not been the same since. I have tried to download 0.59 again but keep getting an error message: Error Opening file for writing etc. click abort retry ignore. I have gone in and removed the bc0.79 file from my computer but when I go under program files I can still see it and when I attempt to delete it I get the message Cannot delete BitComet: Access is denied then under this it states Make sure disk is not full (wtf?) Every time I try to install an older version I get the same error and when I ignore it low and behold the 0.79 file pops up again. The main problem with BC0.79 is that when I find a file to download with BC I click it to open and nothing is downloaded. Any help or advice is appreciated. The UnUsual Suspect
We recommend version .70 to users that have problems with the new client. As for not being able to delete, this is Windows File Protection stopping you from deleting. Rebooting should stop this. If necessary, you can delete in "safe mode". I personally HATE windows file protection, and disable it on all my computers. I posted a guide with a link to a program to do this automatically, but this isn't for all users. If you disable it, then delete files while they are being used, your computer could become unstable. You could also delete important files, so do this at your own risk. Suspect ps. Its prob your firewall blocking your new version of Bit Comet, It's a completely new program, only sharing the name with your old version. Also, we ask that members DO NOT use versions .59 and .60, as they have a serious flaw. Version .70 is the latest STABLE version.

Need a little more info - I turned off my windows firewall and closed out my AVG program and still encounter the same problems. I downloaded the new BC0.70 and when I attempt to open it I still get the same error message. The BC 0.79 is still listed under my programs menu. I rebooted the CPU (ie turned it off and on) and attempted to delete it again with the same message. Can you describe what you mean by going into "safe mode" to delete this problematic file and how exactly I get into safe mode? Is the Windows firewall what you ment by windows file protection - if not how do I find it to turn it off. I know these are likely basic concepts but not areas that I have ever used in the past. Thanks in advance
kluelos
No, it's not. (!!!) It's a really, really bad idea to connect to the internet without a firewall, kinda like taking your front door of the hinges because you had trouble with the lock. Expect stuff (like your identity) to be missing, and some uninvited guests (malware) to walk in if you do that. So turn the firewall back on. Look in the "Guides and How-To's" forum for TUS's topic on how to disable Windows file protection. Once you've got 0.79 removed and 0.70 installed, check your firewall rules. If there's an existing one that says it's for BitComet, delete it. Make a new firewall rule for BitComet, allowing it full access to the internet.
