cant connect to bitcomet

Hi im candynero and im trying to sign in to my bitcomet its not working whats wrong with the server its not my id or password because i know i got them right can you please fix this as its annoying me as i dont have full speed

Hi. Experiencing the same problem.

In my BitComet 1.38 (64bit), in the sign-in pane, I’m getting “Connecting to server…” for a few minutes and then “Unable to sign in CometID at this time”. (See below.)

And on cometid.com, I can log in, but all my scores and ranks have disappeared. (See below.)

I know everything was fine about 6 hours ago. Not sure when exactly the problem began but it’s been going on for at least an hour now.

The exact same thing that mz4r describes above is happening to me right now. In addition to that I have noticed the sign in process has taken much longer than usual the last few days, and tends to hang and not respond. Help?

To everyone concerned about CometID, yes it’s down, this happens sometimes with websites just like it does with your personal computer, errors occur and need to be fixed. Large commercial websites like Google and Amazon have many backup servers running and staff on duty 24/7 to fix problems, but BitComet being a free service is maintained by volunteers and it will be fixed as soon as someone on the development team has the time to fix it. I have notified them of the outage and I expect it will be up and running by monday, if not sooner.

In the mean time you can continue to use BitComet, it will still work as good as any other bittorrent client and only some of it’s more advanced features like LTseed snapshots, search for mirrors etc will be effected by the outage.

Thanks for the information.

Guardian Eagle, thanks for letting us know, and for all you guys do!

Meant to thank The UnUsual Suspect -Oops, newbish mistake.

Thanks to Guardian Eagle for the heads up on this problem. It happened to me and since yesterday I cannot

log in with my BitComet user id and password. It cannot just be a coincidence, however, that this problem

occurred just as I had updated to BitComet version 1.38. Previously I had been using version 1.37 and this

logged me in automatically each day with no problem but then, blam, with version 1.38 installed, I could not

log in again and just got a “server not available” message when I try to log in. Download and performance

does not seem to be affected but, of course, my ranking and scores are lost while I cannot log in. What troubles

me more is that BitComet version 1.38 seems to come with an installer that includes adware/malware if you

are not careful to monitor the install process. When you go through the install options you get to a final window

that tries to get you to make something your home page or install some unwanted crap or whatever. I cannot

quite remember what all these things were but I would not touch them with a barge pole and I am disappointed

that BitComet has resorted to inflicting this crapware on users.

Thanks, The UnUsual Suspect, for the prompt response.

thanks eagle

the only thing is bitcomet will collect any point from the download, upload, seed etc

but still a great tool to use

Are you for real? this has got to be the most ignorant post I’ve seen.

Also the fact that the first time you come here to make a post you use the opportunity to insult people who give you free software and spread lies about them. This says a lot about your character.

Thanks to all the kind members here who understand that free products like BitComet are maintained by volunteers and outages are to be expected, and of course that this doesn’t stop you from using BitComet. The bittorrent protocol that BitComet is designed around can run completely independent of any external servers, so there is nothing at all to be concerned about, just continue to download anything you like and sooner or later cometID will be back up and running.

I apologise if I have offended you. It was not intended. BitComet is certainly highly

regarded by me. I have checked again and the installer for version 1.38 tries to

get you to install MPCStar which is not malware I agree but does try to make itself

the default video and music player (which actually does not work with Windows 8).

Then the install of MPCStar tries to get you to change your home page to something

called “Google.atcomet.com” and also install a browser called “Cometbird” and then

up pops a window trying me to install something called “Conquer Earth”. What am I

to make of this but just another load of adware? Again I apologise if I have offended

the rules or anything but you really need to think before you call people ignorant

when they are just making reasonable comments. Kind regards.

thanks

And gdavidedward_nie, I doubt it has anything to do with version 1.38. My problem started yesterday while I was using 1.37; I updated it to 1.38 (just in case) and the problem persists.

As for including the browser homepage change and MPCstar (which is absolutely not a crapware, IMO) installation, at least BitComet is not sneaky about it like other installers (which would have packaged them under “Express installation” and you wouldn’t have even known they were included). It was clearly stated under “Support Us” step, and clearly optional. I see nothing wrong with that.

Topic cleaned up and all off-topic discussions removed
