double-clicking on a tab will close it

Hi!

Im newbie here. Was looking for a secondary browser for my Firefox and found a good fellow in Cometbird. However Cometbird has a strange behavior when doubleclicking a tab - it will close! Ive not found that behavior in Firefox so far.

I use to doubleclick tabs ‘by mistake’ because of my computer. I own an old computer and it works slower when running several programs at the same time. So this doubleclick thing is unavoidable in my case.

How do i disable this close-tab-by-double-click thing? Thank you.

Jennifer,

Welcome to the forum.

This behavior you tell about is a “feature” of the Browser UI Enhancement 2.06 add-on (I hate this behavior as well, I disabled it too, so I understand your frustration).

You have two ways of disable that feature. One is, simply, disabling that add-on and restarting CometBird. But by doin’ this, you’ll be disabling the whole Browser UI Enhancement add-on, of course (I mean, you’ll be disabling all the add-on’s features. Check out if you use other functions of the add-on, first).

If you use other functions of Browser UI Enhancement 2.06 and don’t wanna lose them (and only want to disable the tabs closing feature by double click), you may try the second way. Follow these easy steps:

■1. Run CometBird and, at the address bar, type about:config and press the Enter key. You may see a warning message. Just click on the I’ll be careful, I promise! button.

■2. You’ll see a long list of items and the cursor blinking at a box named Filter. Start typin’ browser.enhancement and you’ll now see a few items below. Look for the browser.enhacement.dblclick_close_tab.enable item and give it a double click on it. It’ll become bold.

That’s it! It shouldn’t happen a thing now when double clicking a tab. Check it out.

Hope this helps.

Thank you a lot, KNTRO! It worked!

Youre the man!

As I said before: You’re welcome (to the forum   )

Now, seriously, glad to hear that from you. I’ll be right here, any time you need help (PM me if you desire).

Best regards,

Thanks that is soo awesome. Every time I have a problem with a program they want you to check these stupid blogs to find the answers. I waste hours and never find the answers. I was about to uninstall CometBird because I keep losing pages thanks to that poorly designed* double click feature(see below why I say it’s poorly designed). My mouse does doubleclicks a lot, I guess its broken. The last couple days it has really been a problem and it keeps aggravating me. I decided to Check the help thing even though it’s never helped before, and it was right there!!! No searching! Yay! Thank you Jennifer! Now if someone would just write a help feature that has all this stuff.

But the Double click feature doesn’t seem to work right anyway(*Poorly designed). *Cause other times I accidentally click once on the tab I have open and it closes.

I have a complaint with your answer too. You give us one fix and say “If you use other functions of Browser UI Enhancement 2.06 and don’t wanna lose them…”, well I don’t know if I do or not, How bout giving examples of what is controlled by this feature so we have an idea if we’re using it or if it’s the source of all my issues.

You dont have to thank me, thank KNTRO, as he was the one who brought here the solution to our problem.

Oh, and I dont think these forums are stupid at all. I found this useful indeed. You have to learn to follow the forums rules and search for the right forum, it isnt that hard.

Good luck!

No, Jenny (can I call you* Jenny*? :P). Nobody has to thank me. I do this because I like to help users of Mozilla technology based programs, as CometBird.

You’re right. It’s important that everybody respects the rules of any forum. Most rules say that you have to take a look and search for the answers at the forum before posting questions.

Moderators say that it’s highly probable that someone else asked the same thing in the past. And they used to be right in the vast majority of all cases.

ArkNJet,

You’re welcomed to the forum, too. B)

other times I accidentally click once on the tab I have open and it closes.

That used to happen to me as well, that’s exactly why I disabled this evil function.

Alright.

The Browser UI Enhancement 2.06 add-on offers several features. All its features are shown in the

about:config setting page under the browser.enhancement prefix when the add-on is enabled.

These are all the functions of the Browser UI Enhancement 2.06 add-on:

■ Close tab by double clicking

■ Tab Group

■ Open web addresses by dragging its selected URLs text and dropping it into the address bar

■ Open web addresses by dragging its selected URLs link and dropping it into the address bar

■ Google Translate: translate a word under the cursor

■ Google Translate: translate the selected text

■ Send anonymous statistics

If you disable this add-on, all of these functions will be disabled as well.

Only the first option of the list is not present in the Browser UI Enhancement 2.06 add-on menu (I think it’s a mistake, something that CometNetwork forgot). The rest of options are there (my opinion is that all the CometBird’s default add-ons need a revision/update in fact).

So, are you using Tab Group, drag & drop URLs, Google Translate service from Browser UI Enhancement or sending anonymous statistics? If you’re not, you can disable the add-on. Otherwise if you’re using at least one of these features, you should keep this add-on enabled (you’ve already modified the Close tab by double clicking function thru the about:config page, so now you don’t have to worry about this specific function, 'cause it’s indifferent whether you have this add-on enabled or not).

I hope all this explanation be clear enough to you, ArkNJet. If you have more questions, just post them here, I’ll help as much as I can.

Best regards to both of you!

But you could have easily found this out for yourself, rather than insist that KNTRO look it up and read it for you. Thus, while you may have a complaint with the answer, I have a complaint with your question.

We don’t get paid, any of us, to do this. We all volunteer our time and efforts. We don’t owe it to anybody, and it isn’t our jobs. It’s not unfair or too much, to ask you to make some efforts to help yourself, eh?

No, Jenny (can I call you* Jenny*? :P)

I think that I’m gonna ‘puke’ (it’s either a furball… or an excessive amount of sugar in this reply…)

Used to be??? Did someone die and make this young pup the new know-it-all, without me hearing about it? Call me hyper-sensitive but… isn’t his head starting to swell just a tad too much??
