mpc player works flawlessly on my laptop, but when i use a VGA cable to my LCD TV i get only sound, no image. if i use VUZE player i get it all. but i dont want to have to open vuze to see movies on my HD.
what could be wrong?

It sounds like the video output isn’t being routed correctly to the VGA port. I know nothing of the Vuze player, didn’t even know there was one, so have no idea how it’s accomplishing this.
You might try one or two other video players – VLC, Media Player Classic, RealPlayer – to see if they have similar issues, or interesting differences. Also try different types of files to play and see if that makes a difference.
