We are currently seeking some users who would like to help development of BitComets new Anonymous Download option.
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year experience using torrents.
Working knowledge of bittorrent protocol and related technical terms.
Ability to communicate technical information in English (Chinese users may apply too).
When approved, you will be given access to the VIP system for a period of 30 days and will be expected to report any bugs or issues encountered along with screenshots for our development team to review.
Please reply and describe your level of expertise and we will contact all applicants who we feel are both knowledgeable and able to communicate well.
I’d be interested in working with the beta team for the anonymous feature. I have several years of .torrent experience, and approximately 25 years IT and tech experience. I have great communication abilities, and am a frequent downloader.
Why not ask him to reply, in a PM, explaining to you in detail, how he thinks anonymous downloading works? That ought to be a fair test of both technical understanding, and communication skill.
Hi,
Before we send your information for consideration of beta testing, can you give me a description of how vip and anonymous vip works, in your opinion.
Don’t worry if your unsure about something, it’ not a test.
Good, 'cause I hate tests…
Basically, the VIP program allows me to purchase additional download speed when my upload speed is not sufficient to naturally allow higher d/l speed. Basically, it allows me to pay when I’m not sharing in a high enough percentage based on my downloads.
Anon VIP, I would assume is based on a NAT scheme of some sort, to allow my downloads to funnel through an anonymous server that does not retain logs for the NAT connections. That’s my best guess anyway.
Thanks.
I’d say since he’s our only applicant so far, we take him. He seems to communicate ok, even if his technical knowledge is a bit novice.
Ok, I will submit your information. Please send me your comet ID user name and I will get back to you if I’m able to get you approved.
Thanks for your offer to help.
ok i’m happy to help I’ve been using bitcomet for around 3 years from now and I’m an active member of the forum since 2009. I won’t say that I’m an expert but i have certain extent of knowledge and I got no problem in communication.
I have to agree with kluelos sentiments. His post is in broken English, you’d think he could manage a few sentences without showing his lack of understanding.
Well in this rhythm I’m afraid the service will be labeled as “stable” and released to the grand public long before we hit the target beta tester mass, just as it happened with VIP. We don’t even have 10 users.
I’d say be less selective with the first 20-30 and only if you feel they’re starting to pile up be more scrutinizing.
At the end of the day, there is no guarantee that bugs will occur exactly for those who have all the qualities we require, as bugs occurrences, often, highly depend on certain more or less random conditions or configurations.
I’m not saying to just take any clod who hasn’t ever used BitComet before but we can’t really wait for phDs to enlist and complete the number of testers.
@wiz, my main concern is being able to understand what they report, and for them to understand what we tell them. If they make a post thats full of grammar and spelling errors, then I don’t have faith in their ability to communicate.
Also, I’m still waiting for the first users to get their accounts so I can add them to the beta testers group. Why did we do all this and invite users if getting them their account is going to be difficult. I’ve messaged ariel at least twice about this.
If the team wants to cancel this whole thing, then someone should tell me, or if there are some existing bugs they want to fix first, then please tell me so I can let the members know there will be a delay.
I’m interested to be a beta tester. I have been active user for the last 4 years and are familiar with the techincal terms. Thank you for considering me. Regards.
Sent him the same question I sent to the first applicant. we’ll see how clear his description is.
edit: not really thrilled with his reply, his tech knowledge is lacking, but his communication seems to suffice, so I’d say we could do worse.
In simple explanation, anonymous vip simply acts as a security feature to prevent third party to view your activities through your IP location. When a VIP user perform downloads, the local IP address will be connecting to the host, hence have left his/her “footprint” in those visited sites. With the anonymous VIP function, the application will create a proxy in replacing the user IP address, the new anonymous IP address in this case will connect to the host and encrypt the downloads , in this case third party is unable to track user’s activities. Hope this clarify. Thank you.
25 years experience initially as a software developer then more recently in IT Support. I have also been part of Beta testing for MMORPGs such as Everquest and World of Warcraft.
I haven’t posted much on here since registering but have recently put in bug reports and a few improvement suggestions.
I have a 50k+ score on my ID from using BitComet for the last couple of years so actually qualify for the free VIP trial although I have not activated it yet. Let me know if you would like to set me up as a Beta tester prior to me activating it.
chongka’s reply shows that he’s really borderline, both on tech and communication. I am inclined to think we could do a lot better.
And where did he get this encryption stuff? Just made that up, I reckon. But the important bit shows no real understanding of what’s going on and what could go wrong. If he did submit a bug report, I suspect you’d spend more time figuring out what he was saying, than it was worth.
Hi,
As I understand it, VIP download involves allowing people to use BitComet servers as peers to improve download speed. Anonymous VIP means that the only peer connections made are to the BitComet servers so that the personal IP address is masked from the public network.
I’m not impressed with either, but they didn’t totally screw up the language part, and we don’t have a huge number of volunteers here…

frafrz just got a warning and put on moderator review. I don’t know if he’s being a troll, or just that stupid, but copying another members application isn’t acceptable.
